Share of recycled fibers

‘Sustainable’ means thinking in cycles. In our effort to sell products with the smallest ecological footprint possible, we make systematic use of recycled raw materials. In 2020, 32% of our fibers used had an origin in recycling.

Share of bio-based fibers

Not only the future lies in renewable raw materials. Even today, we are already using bio-based high-tech materials. In 2020, 11% of our fiber raw materials used had their origins in nature.

Carbonfiber nonwovens

Our carbon fiber nonwovens are made entirely from remainders of carbon fiber production. These pre-consumer resources are thus not only spared from incineration; they are also turned into innovative products, with uses for example in the medical field.

Energy management under ISO 50001

We intend to use less electricity and gas over the long term. This is how we conserve limited resources while helping reach the world’s climate targets. Our energy management in accordance with the ISO 50001 helps us achieve this.

Share of European suppliers

While thinking globally, we also value the local. Transport routes for our raw materials, for example, are best kept short.
In 2020, 68% of the raw materials we used came from European suppliers.

GRS certificate

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification not only guarantees the share of recycled materials in the items we produce. It also helps us to reduce negative impacts our production operation may have on our employees and the environment. Find out more >>

Keeping special items in circulation

Not every batch of our nonwovens can meet our high requirements. But rather than passing them to thermal utilization, we would rather try to keep them within circulation and give them a second life as special items. Thus, in 2020, we were able to save 394,000 kg of nonwovens from incineration and the landfill.

Environmental management under ISO 14001

Only through effective environmental protection can we take the interests of our customers, our employees and the neighbours of our production sites into account. With the help of our environmental management in accordance with ISO 14001, we not only ensure compliance with legal regulations and minimize negative environmental impacts, e.g. in the form of soil or air pollution – but with ever-new environmental goals, we are getting a little bit better every year.

Chemical management

The chemicals we use undergo a strict approvals process before they are cleared for use in production. This is how we prevent the use of hazardous substances. At the same time, we regularly check the auxiliaries we use for possible substitutions with more environmentally friendly alternatives.

0wonet – Project for waste prevention

A joint project is under way at all of our locations in Germany with the aim of minimizing waste as much as possible. This involves working in local groups to identify all of the location-specific opportunities.

Greenhouse Gas Protocol

The first step towards reducing our CO2eq. emissions is to perform a comprehensive balance. We therefore plan to draw up a CO2 profile for our locations (by the end of 2022) in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol industry standard (Scope 1 + 2).
We intend to institute this process for drawing up a CO2 profile (Scope 1-3) for products as well by the end of 2021.

ePool vehicle

Although some of the wrinkles of eMobility remain to be ironed out, we view it as an important way to achieve global climate goals. That is why we expanded our vehicle fleet in 2020 by adding an electric car and installing a charging station in our HQ. This gives our employees an opportunity to travel locally by means of electricity.

Installation of photovoltaic systems

The installation of a photovoltaic system at the Reichenbach location is planned for 2022 as part of our effort to increase the share
of renewable energies in the energy we consume.
